Report Animal Suffering, Fraud, or Worker Safety Violations

Your call or email will be handled with complete confidentiality by a seasoned professional who will guide you through your options of reporting wrongdoing, whether in a private laboratory or a publicly-funded facility. IDA's experts have decades of cumulative experience and know the laws concerning the use of animals in experiments, the reporting mechanisms for noncompliance with those laws and what to do if those avenues don't work. You can get as involved as you want to — your involvement could end after the initial phone call; we can guide you; or we can handle the case for you. The choice is, and always will be, yours.

IDA's experts will walk you through the process of reporting to your facility's Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the National Institutes of Health Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare, if these are the options you choose. If you do not wish to report directly to these authorities for fear of reprisal or belief that your reporting will be swept under the rug, we will help you get the information to the proper place while maintaining your anonymity. We know the pitfalls and we can help protect you against retaliation as well as authorities' failure to act.

Our experts can also help with complaints to the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration and can help you determine if complaints of fraud should be pursued — either with a funding agency or the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for violations of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations. Our experts know these laws, including applicable deadlines for reporting.

Whistleblowers and IDA, Helping Animals

Thanks to whistleblowers, IDA's experts have handled numerous cases of noncompliance with animal protection, workplace safety and data integrity laws: Buckshire Corporation, Columbia University, the New Iberia Research Center, Wright State University, the Coulston Foundation, Charles River Laboratories, and the National Institutes of Mental Health, just to name a few. Several of these cases resulted in unprecedented regulatory and law enforcement action. Indeed, collaborative efforts between laboratory whistleblowers and IDA's experts have resulted in formal charges and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines filed against facilities, FDA disqualification of a GLP lab, important changes to policy and animal care standards, Congressional investigations and testimony, and even state criminal charges of cruelty to animals. Complaints concerning fraudulent use of federal monies and violations of employee safety laws have also been filed as a result of whistleblower reporting.
